2p-10p 8 Hours Interned
Starting next week, I will be
going into my third and final objective of this internship which is
3. After being provided with a list of the 12 most commonly
prescribed drugs at our facility, Robin will be able to verbally demonstrate
knowledge of their pharmacotherapeutics, pharmacodynamics, and adverse effects.
I have been provided a list from Grane Pharmacy (the
pharmacy in which Saint Louise Convent gets their medications from) and will be
writing about the top 12 prescribed at Saint Louise Convent. To start off, we need to know what some of the words
in the objective to properly identify what is expected. Pharmacotherapeutics
and pharmacodynamics are really long words! So what do they mean?
Pharmacotherapeutics is defined as “the study of therapeutic uses and effects
of drugs” according to Merriam-Webster. In essence, what the drug does for
you. And Pharmacodynamics is defined as “the branch of pharmacology concerned
with the effects of the drug and the mechanism of their action” according to
Merriam-Webster. In essence, the biochemical and physiological effects of the
drug in the body. This is also known as the drugs mechanism of action. In essence, how the drug works in the body. Again, a lot of info, but we
will get through this. I have 2 more weeks of the semester and 12 drugs to write
about as part of this objective. So for each post I will talk about 3 drugs and
their pharmacotherapeutics and pharmacodynamics and then we will be done! Almost
there guys!
